Plan both conference days with confidence.
The onsite programme takes place at two locations across the Lisbon region. This page provides practical recommendations for accommodation, transport and arrival while leaving participants free to choose the arrangements that suit them best.
Choose the base that matches your priorities.
There is no required accommodation area. Our main recommendation is based on balancing access to both programme days with time in Lisbon. Select an option below to compare the practical differences.
Cais do Sodré or Santos
This is the most balanced base for participants who want to stay in central Lisbon while retaining practical access to both conference locations.
These are practical recommendations rather than required booking areas. Participants may stay elsewhere according to their budget, preferences and wider travel plans.
A conference day followed by a research and innovation visit.

Practical routes for each stage of the visit.
Select a journey below. Exact travel times depend on your starting point, traffic and the transport schedule on the day.
Central Lisbon to Riviera Hotel Carcavelos
Rail option
Travel to Cais do Sodré and take the Cascais railway line towards Carcavelos. From Carcavelos station, continue to the hotel on foot or by a short local ride.
Direct road option
Taxi, Uber or Bolt can take you directly to the hotel. Ride-hailing services are widely used in the Lisbon region and are often more affordable than visitors may expect compared with many other European cities. Prices still vary with demand and traffic.
Staying in Carcavelos
Participants staying at Riviera Hotel will already be at the Day 1 venue. Other Carcavelos accommodation should be checked by address before booking.

Receive practical guidance
We will comment on access to both venues and provide final onsite travel information before the conference.
Coordinated support is being assessed.
We are reviewing whether a coordinated transport arrangement can be provided for the NOVA FCT programme. If arranged, the pickup location, eligibility and timing will be communicated to registered onsite participants. Until confirmed, this should not be treated as an included transfer service.
Start with Lisbon Airport.
Lisbon Airport is also known as Humberto Delgado Airport. Participants arrange their own travel from the airport to their accommodation.
For central Lisbon
The airport metro connects with the wider Lisbon network and may be practical for participants travelling with manageable luggage.
Direct local transport
Official taxis are available at the airport and can travel directly to central Lisbon or Carcavelos.
App-based transport
Ride-hailing services are commonly used in Lisbon. Confirm the pickup point in the app and check the displayed fare before booking.
Before you make your booking.
